Powerful Duas from the Quran for Anxiety and Worry
In a fast-paced world filled with trials and uncertainties, anxiety and stress have become common challenges. However, Islam teaches us that no hardship is permanent, and the ultimate source of peace is in the remembrance of Allah.
As Allah states in Surah Ar-Ra'd (13:28):
"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest."
Here are some of the most powerful Duas from the Quran to help alleviate anxiety and worry.
1. The Dua of Prophet Yunus (Jonah)
When Prophet Yunus (AS) was trapped in the belly of the whale, surrounded by darkness, he called out to Allah with a profound supplication of repentance and reliance.
Arabic: لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ Transliteration: La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimeen. Translation: "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers." (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:87)
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that no Muslim supplicates with this Dua regarding any matter except that Allah will answer him.
2. The Dua for Hardship and Difficulty
When faced with overwhelming tasks or anxiety about the future, we can turn to the Dua of Prophet Musa (Moses) before he faced Pharaoh.
Arabic: رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي Transliteration: Rabbish rahli sadri, wa yassirli amri. Translation: "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] and ease for me my task." (Surah Ta-Ha 20:25-26)
3. Seeking Refuge from Anxiety
While this is from the Sunnah (Prophetic tradition) rather than the Quran directly, it is one of the most comprehensive Duas for mental distress.
Transliteration: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-Hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-bukhli wal-jubni, wa dal'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal. Translation: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men."
Conclusion
Anxiety is a natural human emotion, and experiencing it does not mean your faith is weak. By combining practical steps (like seeking medical or psychological help when necessary) with these powerful spiritual supplications, you can find the balance and peace your heart seeks.
