An-Nur is the One who is Himself Light, who illuminated the heavens and the earth with physical stars and suns, who guides confused hearts out of the darkness of ignorance into the radiant light of truth, and whose guidance illuminates the path to eternal Paradise.

An-Nur (النُّورُ) comes from the Arabic root N-W-R (ن-و-ر), which carries primary meanings of light, radiance, illumination, clarity, manifestation, and guiding warmth.

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth (Allahu Nurus-samawati wal-ard). The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. - The billions of glowing stars and galaxies scattered across deep space.
