The 99 Names of Allah: Al-Wahhab (The Supreme Bestower)

When humans give gifts, we usually expect something in return—whether it is a "thank you," a return gift in the future, or appreciation. But there is One who gives continuously, abundantly, and unconditionally without ever needing anything back.

This brings us to the sixteenth Beautiful Name of Allah: Al-Wahhab.

What Does Al-Wahhab Mean?

Al-Wahhab translates to "The Supreme Bestower," "The Constant Giver of Gifts," or "The All-Generous."

The Arabic root Wahaba means to give a gift (Hiba) freely, out of pure love and kindness, without any price, condition, or expectation of reward. Al-Wahhab gives to everyone—whether they ask or not, whether they deserve it or not, and whether they thank Him or not.

From the health in your body and the guidance in your heart to the loved ones around you, every single blessing in your life is a free gift (Hiba) from Al-Wahhab.

Allah mentions this name in the Quran during a famous prayer of the righteous:

"Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower (Al-Wahhab)." (Quran 3:8)

Giving What Money Cannot Buy

While humans measure gifts in money or physical objects, Al-Wahhab bestows gifts of the highest spiritual and mental value:

• He bestowed righteous children on Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) in his old age.
• He bestowed immense wisdom and a kingdom on Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon).
• He bestows inner peace, guidance, and faith on those who seek Him.

When all human doors seem closed, Al-Wahhab can open doors of blessings from places you never expected.

How Can We Use This Name in Our Lives?

Connecting with Al-Wahhab expands our hearts with gratitude and generosity:

1. Ask Him for "Impossible" Gifts

Never feel hesitant to ask Allah for big things. Prophet Sulaiman made a prayer to Al-Wahhab asking for a kingdom that no one after him would ever have, and Allah granted it to him! When making Dua, ask Al-Wahhab for righteous children, strong faith, peace of mind, and Paradise (Jannah). Nothing is too big for the Supreme Bestower.

2. Give Gifts Freely to Others

If you want Al-Wahhab to shower you with gifts, become a giver yourself. Give charity quietly, give gifts to your family and friends, and share your knowledge without expecting praise or anything in return. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

"Give gifts to one another, and you will love one another." (Al-Adab Al-Mufrad)

3. Recognize Every Blessing as a Gift

Instead of taking your daily blessings for granted, recognize that your eyesight, your family, your food, and your peace are all personal gifts from Al-Wahhab. Say Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) with a grateful heart every single day.
