Everything in the created universe is born, grows, ages, and eventually dies.
Stars collapse into black holes, ancient mountains erode into dust, mighty empires crumble, and every human being who has ever walked the earth eventually takes their final breath. Human life is fragile, temporary, and dependent on oxygen, water, food, and sleep.
If everything around us is dying or destined to end, where can the human heart find something permanent to hold onto?
The sixty-second Beautiful Name of Allah — Al-Hayy (The Ever-Living, The Eternally Living, The One Whose Life Has No Beginning and No End) — reveals the only Being in existence whose life is absolute, self-sustaining, and eternal.
Al-Hayy does not experience origin, aging, sickness, fatigue, sleep, or death. He is alive in the fullest, most perfect sense — and He is the ultimate Source of life for everything else.
1. The Linguistic Roots of Al-Hayy
Al-Hayy (الْحَيُّ) comes from the Arabic root H-Y-Y (ح-ي-ي), which signifies life, vitality, immortality, and complete perfection of existence.
